Update for AUGUST 2011

As you can see i have  changed the background as i felt the floor boards weren't working.  The biggest news in August involved the bees over at the "lost plot".  I acquired two  5 frame "nuc's" at the end of June, these where fed Syrup to help them build up. By the 3rd week of August they had both filled two brood boxes so i took off the feed and added supers.

    What type of floors are they on? I've been using mesh floors with permanent entrance reduces for several years, which keep the hives dry in winter and minimise problems with mould and chalk.

    Both are on mesh floors in accordance with a) my tuition b) current thinking / best practice and c) the common sense made by improved winter ventilation and limited ability of varroa to jump!
